Who We Are

Founded in 1997, La Noticia is an independent, family-owned community news organization committed to excellence, integrity, and innovation. For 28 years, we have been a cornerstone of information for Spanish-speaking families across North Carolina.

We cover issues that matter most to our community — immigration, education, housing, elections, health, the economy, and culture — producing award-winning investigative and enterprise reporting that drives civic participation and social change.

Our commitment to journalistic integrity and community service has earned national recognition:

  • 49 José Martí Awards from the National Association of Hispanic Publications (2024), including 9 gold (one of them Outstanding Spanish Language Weekly Newspaper)— making La Noticia the most awarded Spanish-language news outlet in the U.S. for nine consecutive years.
  • Two national EPPY Awards from Editor & Publisher for Best Website for a Latino Newspaper and Best Weekly Newspaper Website (English and Spanish).
  • Collaboration of the Year Award from LION Publishers for innovative community engagement and newsroom partnerships in 2023.

La Noticia is an active member of the Charlotte Journalism Collaborative (CJC) — alongside Carolina Public Press, WFAE, WCNC TV, The Charlotte Observer, QCityMetro, QNotes, Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, James L. Knight School of Communication at Queens University of Charlotte — working together to make trusted local news accessible to all.

We are also proud members of LatidoBeat, a national coalition of leading local Spanish-language news organizations, united to elevate the rich diversity of Latino voices across the United States. Driven by a shared beat, we aim to move forward together, highlighting our communities’ experiences and telling the stories that truly matter. The members of LatidoBeat are: La Noticia (Charlotte), La Opinión (Los Angeles), La Raza (Chicago), El Diario (New York City), El Comercio de Colorado, La Prensa de Houston, and La Prensa de Orlando.

Our partnership with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library ensures that every edition of La Noticia since 1997 is preserved in The Vault, the city’s official historical digital archive — a testament to our role in documenting the Latino experience in Charlotte.

Wells Fargo and La Noticia partnered to launch Mi Dinero y Yo” (My Money and Me), a community initiative designed to help Latino families strengthen their financial well-being. Through original, culturally relevant content in Spanish. This project provides practical guidance on personal finance, empowering participants to make informed decisions and move toward greater financial independence.

Bank of America and La Noticia have joined forces to support Latino-owned businesses. The project “Negocios” offers entrepreneurs practical information and original content on how to build successful sales campaigns, create profitable marketing plans, and develop effective social media strategies to grow their businesses.
